Kate and Pippa lead the way recycling their clothes!

First it was Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge who was spotted recycling her outfits' on her tour of America. Now her sister Pippa has been seen doing the same thing – wearing the same outfit for a second time. With these high profile sisters setting the ‘clothes recycling’ trend, other celebrities appear to be following suit.

But can wearing an outfit more than one time really be considered ‘recycling’?
The dictionary defines recycling as: “The collection and often reprocessing of discarded materials for reuse.” For a celebrity, a once-worn item of clothing may normally be discarded, so yes, wearing this same item again could be considered recycling.

Whilst to royals and celebrities, clothes recycling may mean wearing the same designer outfit more than once; for most of us clothes recycling has a whole different meaning.

When our clothes reach the stage that we are ready to discard them, it may be because they are worn, torn or we have outgrown them. This is where true recycling or up-cycling comes into play.

The possibilities of how to use old clothes is limited only by our imagination. A sundress a little girl has grown out of could be turned into a beautiful shoulder bag:

T-shirts can be made into so many different things – from bags to wedding dresses! Ties, sweaters, socks, shirts – any item of clothing can be reused and refashioned to make your very own designer outfits.

There are literally hundreds of inspirational ideas readily available online for up-cycling your old clothes.  Go here for 100+ clothes recycling projects, find one to try - or add your own to this growing resource.

So why not follow the lead of the Duchess of Cambridge, and recycle your clothes!

  1. I love these, too bad I don't have a halter dress!

  2. Hi,

I'm so glad I was late to follow back. I love these ideas. I'm going to bookmark that site. Thanks for coming by and following. I'm following back. Have a great weekend.

  3. Jill - I don't see wearing an outfit twice as recycling. It makes for an interesting discussion though.

Those bags shown are lovely, and thank you for the recycling link.

  4. Yep - it is a stretch to call it recycling - I was surprised when I read that in the newspaper stories - but I suppose for them, it is in a way! Their lives are just so different to ours! It's sometimes hard to draw parallels!

I love comments and try to respond to them all. Thanks for taking the time !
